Payment for quality and outcomes is an emerging pathway for the reimbursement of healthcare services. Quality ‘scores’, however, are often dependent upon the proper reporting certain data elements on the health care claim. Payers are advised to exercise caution in an environment that attaches revenue to quality scoring, highlighting pathways and processes for provider reporting that may result in artificially inflated quality scores.
